What is Capital Supports?

Capital Supports is the NDIS budget category funding one-off, higher-cost items: assistive technology, home and vehicle modifications, and Specialist Disability Accommodation. Funding is tied to specific approved items, usually requires a quote and often an allied health assessment, and cannot be spent on anything else.

Capital funding is the least flexible in the scheme. An amount approved for a wheelchair is approved for that wheelchair; it does not become general funding if the participant changes their mind.

Most support-delivery providers never touch Capital funding. Providers who do — assistive technology suppliers, building modifiers, SDA providers — work to a quote-and-approve cycle rather than a rostered-service cycle.
