A service type is where a service is defined properly — the NDIS support items it maps to, the rate it bills at, and the qualifications a worker must hold to deliver it. Everything downstream reads that one definition, which is why a shift, a payslip and an invoice for the same work cannot disagree.
Service types — how it works
Define each service once with its support items, its billing rate and its qualification requirements. Scheduling resolves against it when a shift is created, payroll uses it when the shift is paid, and invoicing uses it when the work is billed.
Qualification requirements feed the rostering gates directly, so a worker without the required certification is not offered the shift in the first place rather than being caught in a compliance report afterwards.
Why it matters for NDIS providers
When service definitions live in three systems they diverge, and the divergence surfaces as an invoice that does not match a timesheet. A single definition removes an entire category of reconciliation work.
- One definition, three systems: scheduling, payroll and invoicing read the same record.
- Mapped to catalogue items: the support items a service bills against are held with the service.
- Qualifications enforced at rostering: an unqualified worker is not offered the shift.
What's included
- Support item mapping. The NDIS catalogue items a service bills against.
- Billing rates. What the service charges, resolved from the price book where applicable.
- Qualification requirements. Certifications a worker must hold, enforced when rostering.
- Used across the platform. Scheduling, payroll and invoicing all resolve against it.
- Per-organisation definitions. Your services, not a fixed list.
Who it's for
Service managers and anyone responsible for making sure the work delivered, the pay calculated and the invoice raised describe the same thing. It is foundational rather than optional — most other features in Rostery resolve through it.
Getting started
Service Types is included in your Rostery plan and works the moment your data is in — there is no separate module to buy or set up. Book a demo and we will show it on your own workflows, and use Rostery's “Smart Switch” data migration to bring your existing clients, staff, shifts and notes across from your current software in minutes.
